HOTEL workers swapped the check-in desk for the car park to raise cash for a lifesaving charity.

Workers at Travelodge’s two Washington hotels got in a lather to wash cars in aid of Cancer Research UK.

They also donned pink outfits for the day as they got into the spirit of the event, despite it being a wet day on Wearside.

Tom Cawdell, Travelodge’s district manager for the North East, said: “It’s quite competitive across the Travelodge estate when it comes to fund-raising, and my team was really keen to do something different for our Pink Day event.

“We came up with the idea of a Pink Car Wash Service as it’s a simple concept to incorporate.

“Also, with time being of the essence in today’s hectic world, it’s a great time-saver for customers to have their car washed whilst they are staying with us.”

Claire Rowney, head of corporate partnerships at Cancer Research UK, said: “It’s amazing that such a well-known brand has decided to dedicate a whole day of fund-raising to this great cause. The money raised from Pink Day will make a huge difference to our charity and means that we can continue to fund our life-saving research.”
