A HORSE racing trainer could be banned from the sport for up to a decade after charges he breached animal welfare regulations.

Howard Johnson, of County Durham, admitted one horse in his care was “de-nerved” to prevent it feeling pain.

He claims he was unaware the operation was banned.

He is also charged with training three horses given anabolic steroids.

A hearing will be held in February.
