SUNDERLAND’S adopted ship will arrive in the city tomorrow morning.
HMS Ocean, the Royal Navy’s largest warship, is due to enter the mouth of the river at 6am and will berth at the Port of Sunderland, starting a four-day visit to Wearside.
Captains Kevin Markwell and Baber Abidi will guide the ship into port.
Harbour Master, Captain Kevin Ullah, said: “The safe navigation of HMS Ocean within the port is of paramount importance and entails a huge team effort.”
On Saturday, officers and crew will mark their Freedom of the City with a parade through the city centre from 3pm.
HMS Ocean is open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
