A WEARSIDE town showed its respect for Drummer Rigby by putting a St George flag next to a famous landmark.

Hetton resident and dad-of-four Stephen Snowdon noticed the flag beside the town’s war memorial while he was out on a morning walk.

“I’ve got no idea who left it here,” said the 35-year-old. “But I just think it’s a nice gesture for someone to have done that and show their support. I was watching everything about the death and I’ve barely had any sleep since. It’s so sickening.

“I’ve got two young children and you think ‘What is the world coming to?’ and ‘What kind of world is it going to be when they grow up?’ when you see things like this happening.

“But it’s heartbreaking for his family. You can’t imagine what they’re feeling like.”
