Entries were up and the quality of exhibits reached a new high at the Herrington village show. Show chairman Leslie Scott said: “The weather reduced the attendance on the day but there was certainly a wow factor in the exhibits. The gladioli stand was the best I have ever seen at local and even regional shows. Our new five vegetable challenge produced some outstanding efforts and will remain a feature of the show. Cookery and craft was well supported and the sugar craft tables were eye-boggling.
Entries in the photographic section was the highest for years. The Sunderland Embroiderers’ Guild put on a display of their work and local artist groups made a return to the show with a selection of their paintings.” Bridget Phillipson MP handed out the prizes and expressed delight that local community groups could come together and organise such a traditional event.
