Lakeside and Gilley Law Community Centre has rooms available to hire for toddler groups, keep fit classes, puppy training, meetings, birthday parties receptions and social group events. Bookings for day or evening sessions, long term or one off bookings can be accepted. There are rooms available with up to 100 capacity along with kitchen facilities.Hire charge are £15 per hour. The Sunderland Prostate Oncology group (SPOG) held its first coffee morning and information session at St Chad’s Church hall. The well attended session involved an excellent presentation of the facts around the identification and treatment of male prostate cancer. A lively question and answer session was expertly handled by the clinicians present. It is hoped to promote similar sessions in the future.

The Herrington village show group has been nominated in the Community Group section of the Best of Wearside awards, run by the Sunderland Echo in association with Wearside business. Winners will be announced at the ceremony on Thursday, November 19.

Councillors Stuart Porthouse, Gillian Galbraith and Darryl Dixon are holding ward surgeries on Wednesday, October 21, from 11.30am to 12.30pm in the Jubilee Centre, Allendale Road, Farringdon. A surgery will also be held on Saturday, October 24, from 11am noon in the Methodist Chapel, Crow Lane, Middle Herrington.

Sunderland South Forum will meet on Wednesday, October 21, in the Jubilee Centre, Allendale Road, Farringdon at 1pm (12.30pm light buffet). The speaker will be Mike Lowthian, Age UK Sunderland. A Christmas market will be held in the Ivy Suite at Wearside Health and Racquet Club, Doxford International Business Park, on Tuesday, November 3, from 6pm to 9pm. There will be more than 25 stalls with lots of gift ideas for Christmas. Entry is free. The event is being in support of Herrington Flower Club.

Herrington Flower Club will hold its Christmas meeting on Monday, November 9, in St Chad’s Church hall, Durham Road, at 7.30pm. The meeting will feature John Datton demonstrating Christmas Magic. Tickets are £5 and include refresments. Visitors are welcome.
