Herrington Women’s Institute is celebrating the centenary of the movement with a special project. Members set out to knit 100 articles for good causes. Items will go to the Christmas Shoebox appeal and worthy local causes. At the Herrington village show the items were displayed by vice-president Ann Scott.

Members of the St Chad’s Labour Party are organising tables for the annual constituency dinner to be held at the Chilton Country Pub and Hotel on Friday, October 9. Guest speaker will be Hilary Benn MP, the Shadow Foreign Secretary. Tickets are £30 and transport will be laid on. Members and supporters are welcome. Fresh Start Community Cafe, Jubilee Centre, Allendale Road, is hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Thursday from 10am to 2pm. Donations would be welcome, but please contact Lorna on 0191 5228447 before hand.

The next Sunderland South Forum meeting takes place tomorrow in the Jubilee Centre, Allendale Road, at 1pm (12.30pm light buffet). This will be the AGM. For more information, contact Lorna on 019 5228447.

Anchor Housing Oakfield Court, East Herrington, is holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday from 9.30am to noon. There will also be lots of activities including spin the wheel, guess the sweets in the bottle, domino cards and many hampers to be won.

East Herrington Townswomens Guild meets tonight in St Chad’s Church hall at 7.15pm. The speaker is Vinji Rastogie, who will give a talk on Indian Culture and Saris. Members of St Chad’s Church are to hold a Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday in the church hall from 10am.

A sugar craft class is to be held on Tuesdays for the next 10 weeks in Middle Herrington Methodist Church, Crow Lane, from noon to 2pm. The first session takes place today and sessions cost £3.50. For further details, contact Carolyn on 0191 5368353.
