SCHOOL kids were given their dream job in the run-up to Christmas.

Pupils from East Rainton Primary School turned toy testers for the day to try out gifts at The Bridges in Sunderland.

The shopping centre invited 10 lucky pupils, aged four to nine, to be toy critics for the day and test the latest must-have items available in Sunderland for Christmas.

The toy testers had free rein to play with toys from retailers including Disney, ModelZone, Early Learning Centre and Build-A-Bear before voting on their favourites and compiling the definitive Children’s Christmas Wish List.

Triumphing in the toy testing session, with numerous five-out-of-five scores, was the Early Learning Centre’s Projector Desk, an interactive art activity allowing children to trace and draw different pictures, which was a huge hit and allowed children to demonstrate their artistic flair.

Hot on its heels in second place was ModelZone’s racing remote control car, the Subaru Imprezza, with Build-A-Bear’s snuggly Penguin Bear entering the wish list in third place.

Andy Bradley, centre director at The Bridges said: “Our first ever toy testing session was a huge success.

“It proved a unique opportunity for local school pupils to sample the must-have toys available right here in Sunderland and for them to get a glimpse of what they would like Santa to bring them this Christmas.

“The session has allowed us to produce a definitive list of toys that are relevant to the children of Sunderland and are going to be on children’s Christmas wish lists this year. All the products on the list are available at stores within our centre making it easier for parents to buy those all-important presents.

“What’s more, we all know how difficult children can be to buy for when there are so many toys to choose from, so we hope this proves to be a fool-proof guide for any shoppers who are trying to decipher what children will be hoping Santa brings them on Christmas morning.”

The Bridges is open late onThursdays until 9pm and from Monday December 12, will be open each weeknight until 9pm.
