There will be a community cinema evening at Back on the Map Carnegie Corner this month. Admission to the showing will be £2 and includes refreshments. Film choices are Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Tailor of Banan, Quantum of Solace. New members are welcome. There is a membership fee of £5 each year to cover license costs, which can be paid in instalments if required. Contact the centre for more details

Book an afternoon Christmas Victorian tea for you and your friends in the Donnison School, which is a grade II listed building. The cost is £8 per person and includes coffee or tea with scones, sandwiches, mince pies, Christmas food and an illustrated talk. Places are available on Friday, Thursday, November 24, and Thursday and Friday, December 1 and 2, from 1pm to 3pm each day. To book, ring 0191 565 4835.

Sunderland Pianoforte Society will meet in the Sunderland Pottery Room at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Burdon Road, on Tuesday, November 22, at 7.15pm. Ashley Fripp will be the pianist. The programme will include Beethoven: Sanata Op. 10 No. 2 Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 Rachmaninov: Preludes Op.23. Membership is full subscription (six recitals) £60, individual recitals £12.50, accompanied children (16 and under) free and full-time students and those in receipt of unemployment benefit, £6.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society’s next meeting is tonight at the Tom Cowie Business Suite , Thornhill School, please note the change of venue. There is ample parking available and doors open at 7pm, talk at 7.30pm. Speaker will be Trevor Thorne on Remembered in Sunderland. Non members are welcome, charge £2.
