The next Lovell Lecture at Donnison School on Monday, October 31, from 1pm to 3pm is To the Workhouse Born by Norman Kirtlan. Entrance is £3 for visitors, members £2.50, includes refreshments. All are welcome.
David Fallon, senior lecturer of English at the University of Sunderland, will give a talk A Fatal North East Marriage: Mad Lord Byron and the Prince of Parallelograms to the Nifty Fifties at the City Library on Thursday at 1.30pm.
A visually impaired reading group meets at Sunderland City Library and Arts Centre on Friday from 10.30am to 11.45am. The group meets monthly and new members are welcome.
Hendon Community Association will hold its AGM on November 28 at the centre, Seafarers Way, Moor Terrace, at 6.30pm. All members to attend.
My Own, My Native Land is the title of the talk at Living History North East’s Donnison School, Church Walk, tomorrow. It’s an introduction to the Scottish Borders and Sir Walter Scott’s ballad “The Lay of the Last Minstral” by Steve Watts, head of culture, University of Sunderland.
