Friends of Sunderland Museums (Fosums) will meet on Saturday from 2pm-4pm at Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road for an afternoon of Stories with Strings: a performance of narrative songs about the North East by the folk duo Fool’s Gold. Visitors are welcome, pay £1 at the door.

A 1950s summer fair will be held at the Donnison Heritage Centre on Saturday from noon-4pm. There will be cards and prints, jewellery, bric-a-brac, books, cakes, toys and plants stalls, tombola, raffle, races, children’s games, bottle tombola, face painting, photo booth, vintage tearoom, 1950s/60s fashion show, music and dance from the 1950s, thnaks to The Canny Bunch Performers, and crafts. Beamish Museum will also be there with a 1950s exhibit. Go along to enjoy this sizzling 1950s extravaganza, dress up in outfits of the era and take part in a fashion show – there will be a prize for the best dressed 1950s character a fun family day out, entrance is 50p and all are welcome. Councillor Michael Mordey will hold a Hendon, East End and part of Grangetown ward surgery on Friday in Hendon Library from 5pm-6pm.

An exhibition featuring Canaletto’s A Regatta on the Grand Canal, which is on loan from the National Gallery, is on display until September 13 at Sunderland Museum. Canaletto guided tours take place from 3.30pm–4.30pm (20 minute tours, start times vary) take place on Wednesdays, meet on the art gallery landing on level two.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace, is open for research tomorrow from 10am to noon and Saturday from9.30am to noon.
