POOCHES will be doing their bit for a charity celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Dogs and their owners are invited to take the lead in a sponsored walk round Herrington Country Park.
The five-kilometre walk is one of 10 events taking place around the north of England in aid of charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Women’s service charity Soroptimist International Sunderland is supporting the event, which starts at 11am on Sunday, September 2.
President Tania Le Marinel said: “This is the first time a sponsored dog walk has been held in our area and we’ve already had lots of interest from people – and dogs – who want to come along, plus there’s been a great response from pet shops, vets, boarding kennels and police dog teams.
“We’re very excited and think we may get lots of dogs on the day. We’ve had lots of support from Sunderland Council and the walk will be led by Herrington Park’s park ranger.
“The Mayor of Sunderland has also told us he’d like to officially open our walk, which is great.”
Hearing Dogs for the Deaf links up specially-trained dogs to assist people with hearing problems.
