Weight loss surgery figures fall in Sunderland

THE number of people getting weight loss surgery at Sunderland Royal Hospital has fallen, new figures show.

In the past year, a total of 106 people were admitted for help with obesity problems or bariatric surgery, according to the Health and Social Care Information Centre – down from 123 in 2011/12.

County Durham Primary Care Trust saw the biggest increase in patient numbers having weight loss treatment in the past 12 months, with 229 hospital admissions, up from 170.
