A SUPER slimmer who shed eight stone is hoping to inspire others as she launches a new slimming group.

Susan Ophield’s family pleaded with her to start dieting after a trip to Chester-le-Street almost triggered a heart attack.

The 48-year-old, who weighed almost 20 stone, was forced into action and decided to start shedding the pounds with the help of Slimming World.

She said: “I was walking to the bank in Chester-le-Street one day and I started getting these pains in my chest and felt really unwell.

“I managed to get back to the car and sat there for about 15 minutes thinking I was having a heart attack.

“I told my mum about it and she really wanted me to go to Slimming World.

“As soon as I walked through the door it totally changed my life and I’ve never looked back.”

That was two-and-a-half years ago, and since then Susan, of Park Lea, East Herrington, has lost more than eight stone, giving her a whole new lease of life.

“I’d always wanted to do a charity abseil but I’d always been too big before,” she said.

“In September, I abseiled from the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough for the charity CLIC Sargant and that was amazing.

“The feeling I had when I completed it was absolutely fantastic.”

As well as taking up the challenge of abseiling, Susan is now able to fit into normal size clothes.

She said: “Before my clothes were a size 32 and they were still skintight. There was no bigger size for us at all.

“Being able to go into a clothes shop and pick up normal sizes is amazing. I feel 100 per cent better about myself.”

Now, Susan has decided to launch her own class.

She said: “When I saw how it had changed my life I thought I would like to transform other people’s lives.”

Susan’s Slimming World group meets at St Oswald’s Community Church, Gladwyn Road, Grindon, on Monday from March 7 at 6.30pm and Wednesday at 10am.
