A Sunderland physiotherapist has been praised for the difference she makes to the lives of children.

Sally Rooney, a specialist physiotherapist at The Children’s Centre, in Durham Road, has been nominated in the Carer of the Year category of the Sunderland Echo Health Awards.

Nominations praised Sally’s caring attitude and commitment to the children she works with.

Sally cares for children who have delayed development or conditions like cerebral palsy and has been at the Children’s Centre for about 20 years.

She said: “It’s amazing. I am surprised to be nominated and it is so nice that someone has done it.

“I love my job and care for children who are aged five and under, but I mainly look after children under the age of three and monitor their development.

“I have close relationships with the parents.”

Nominations for Sally praised the way she connects with patients on a different level by providing practical advice and emotional support.

Sally has worked with children for more than 30 years and said her role sees her offering support, advice and training to parents on the ways they can help progress their child’s physical development.

The deadline for nominations for this year’s awards is March 21.

The very best will make it to our grand finals at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on April 14.
