A GENEROUS Wearside institution has given a big lift to the Grace House Hospice Appeal.

Sunderland Lions Club, which has organised the Boxing Day Dip in Seaburn for the last 40 years, has given £4,000 to the cause.

The sum will go towards a ceiling hoist for the hospice.

The Lions has generated cash for Grace House ever since the appeal kicked off in 2002.

Grace House, which is being built in Southwick, will open at the end of this year.

Lion Mike Evans said: “Since 2002, Sunderland Lions has helped raise funds for Grace House by doing fun casinos and race nights.

“The Boxing Day Dip has to date raised £15,876 for Grace House.”

Patron of the Grace House Appeal, broadcaster Kathy Secker, said: “It’s an awful lot of money that has been raised and we must say a big thank you to the Lions.”

The Lions Club is appealing for new members. Those wanting to find out more should call Anne and Peter Fielding on 522 5305.
