An announcement from the World Health Organisation has placed cured and processed meats on the risk list for cancer.
But will this information change the way you manage your diet?
The news that processed meats, including bacon and sausages, rank alongside alcohol and tobacco in terms of causing bowel cancer has spread across the world.
A report from the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer said there was enough evidence to rank processed meats as group 1 carcinogens because of a causal link with bowel cancer.
Experts from the department concluded that each 50 gram portion of processed meat eaten daily increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.
Will you continue to eat the meats as before in light of this announcement?
