HUNDREDS of midwifery and nursing jobs across the region are being cut, it has been claimed.
The Royal College of Nursing Northern Region’s analysis of figures from the Government reveal between May 2010 and November 2011, there were 513 fewer nurses and midwives employed in the region.
The job losses, many of which were part-time roles, are the equivalent of 369 full-time positions.
Glenn Turp, RCN Northern region’s director, said: “We now have month-on-month data from the Department of Health which corroborates exactly what the RCN has been saying for two years.
“Namely, that the NHS is losing key front-line staff as a direct result of the Government’s cuts agenda.”
