WORK is quickly taking shape at Grace House.
Gentoo builders are at the Southwick site each day, hard at work to keep the children’s hospice on schedule.
Broadcaster Kathy Secker, who founded the Grace House Appeal, showed the Echo’s video cameras around the building, as workers continued to put it together.
The Echo has launched its Hospice of Hope Appeal to raise £20,000 for a specially equipped play area at the hospice.
Kathy said: “As soon as we walked into the site today, the first thing that hit me was the paved area at the front entrance which will be part of the parking area.
“It looks fantastic and so does the whole front entrance.
“The glass is also now in the downstairs area and it gives you a real sense of the whole shape of the hospice.
“The children’s bedrooms now have colour on the doors which looks great too.”
The hospice is set to be open by the end of this year, when it will care for sick youngsters from across Wearside and the rest of the North East.
Kathy renewed the call for readers to continue donating the Hospice of Hope Appeal.
“Readers should know that they have helped to do this so far,” said Kathy.
“You are an amazing lot of people and I hope you can help us to continue this great work.”
MONEY has been flooding in from across Wearside to our Hospice of Hope Appeal, but cash needs to keep coming to hit the £20,000 target.
The campaign total currently stands at £3,940, a fantastic effort in the short time since the appeal was launched.
Readers can text a donation by texting PARK12 followed by the amount they wish to donate (e.g. PARK12 £5) to 70070.
Any amount between £1 and £10 can be sent to the charity.
Cheque or postal orders in aid of the appeal can also be sent in, which should be made payable to Northeast Press Ltd – Sunderland Echo Charity Account.
Written on the reverse should be “Grace House Hospice of Hope Appeal”.
They should then be sent to David Allison, Hospice of Hope Appeal, Sunderland Echo, Echo House, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Sunderland, SR4 9ER.
If you are holding an event to raise money for the appeal, contact David Allison at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 501 7137.
