PATIENTS and their families will have more spiritual support available after a new chaplain was licensed to work at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

The Reverend Remi Omole was licenced by the Right Reverend Mark Bryant, Bishop of Jarrow, to serve within the hospital trust at a short service in the hospital chapel.

London-born Rev Omole, 50, completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Durham University in 1996.

After a spell in teaching, he worked for the County Durham Youth Offending Service where he served in roles including project manager for the Wear Valley Youth Inclusion Programme.

A spokeswoman said: “The chaplains are available for everyone, whether individuals have a religious faith or not and Reverend Omole is a welcome addition to this valuable team.”
