Peterlee’s Mayor is being put through her paces.
Mary Cartwright has joined Peterlee Active Exercise Scheme (Paces), to improve her health and fitness.
The Mayor is concerned about the rise in obesity levels across the UK, especially in the North East of England and wants to encourage Peterlee residents who are not active to consider their health and start doing a little bit of exercise each day.
She has increased her level of physical activity under the watchful eye of Sharon Pounder, Peterlee Town Council’s Sports Development Officer, who delivers Paces along with a team of fitness instructors.
Paces was originally an NHS-funded project set up to
help reduce the risk of heart disease and type two diabetes among adults aged 18 – 74.
The Mayor herself has benefited from taking part in yoga and other exercise classes on offer through Paces.
Mary said: “I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to look after your health and exercise on a regular basis. It helps me to feel better about myself and has increased my energy levels”.
Paces offers a wide range of exercise classes from body tone, zumba and pilates to chair exercise and mindfulness courses.
Paces is open to both males and females, and classes are held at The Pavilion in Helford Road and Eden Lane Community Facilities in Eden Hill.
