Healthwatch: volunteers spread the word in Sunderland

A TEAM will be hitting the streets to spread the word on how to seek the right health care.

The volunteers with Healthwatch Sunderland are among those who have signed up to a new campaign called Just Ask...Healthwatch to let people know about the service.

The organisation can discover how to find a new GP or dentist, choose a hospital for their operation, get help to look after an elderly relative and what to do if they are unhappy with their care or treatment.

Volunteers will visit GP practices, dentists, pharmacists, opticians, libraries, hospitals and many other community venues with posters, leaflets and other campaign materials that will help patients to find out more.

Kevin Morris, chairman of Healthwatch Sunderland said: “If you don’t know who to contact or where to go to find health or social care services in your local area, Healthwatch can help.

“We can provide information or signpost you to relevant services and support you to make informed choices when choosing the best services to meet your needs.

The campaign has seen the group join forces with other Healthwatch organisations in Teesside.

Healthwatch is also the voice of patients and can represent the views and experiences of people who use health and social care services and find out where improvements can be made to ensure services can meet patients’ needs.

Contact the group free on 0800 023 8840 or via www.healthwatchsunderland.com.
