BUSINESSES across County Durham were recognised for improving the health and wellbeing of their employees.
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust hosted an awards evening to celebrate the hard work and commitment of employers in achieving the North East Better Health at Work Award.
The award scheme is a partnership between the 12 local authorities in the region, the Northern TUC and the NHS.
In County Durham, the award is delivered by the Health Improvement Service at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
The award provides companies with a framework to identify and support the health needs of all their employees.
The award is open to all employers, from micro-businesses to large multinational enterprises.
In 2013, regionally, 151 companies achieved the award, representing almost 135,000 employees.
Lee Mack, Associate Director Health and Wellbeing for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted with the involvement of the local business community in the Better Health at Work partnership and 40 companies have achieved one of the four different levels of the award this year.
“The scheme makes a big difference to workplace health.”
