FRIENDS are rallying round to help a cancer sufferer.

Ten women from exercise group Fit Chix are taking part in the Neon Run, in Herrington Park, this weekend.

They are hoping to raise enough money to buy a wig for friend Louise Seery, who suffers from stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Louise, 22, of Hendon, started experiencing symptoms of the disease in 2012 and had a series of tests at hospital, which uncovered a catalogue of health issues.

When lymphoma was diagnosed, she was immediately transferred to the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Louise’s friends from Fit Chix decided to raise money to buy her a wig, after she made the decision to have her hair shaved off.

On Saturday they will take part in the Neon Run, organised by events company Sunderland Live.

Andrea Robinson, who organised the fund-raising event, said Louise is an “inspiration”. “She always looks amazing,” she
said, adding: “Nothing phases her.

“Nothing gets her down – at least in front of us.”

The group of nine women, who will run the 5km in neon colours, have been training four times a week in preparation for the event, and want to raise between £600 and £1,000 for Louise.

“We are well prepared,” said Andrea.

“Louise comes to the classes when she can – she is still in and out of hospital receiving
treatment – though she is weak.

“She is truly an inspiration.”
