FEEL fitter and better thanks to a new festival hitting Sunderland this month.

Feel Good Sunderland, which takes place on Saturday, April 27, is aimed at promoting health, beauty and fitness and will feature a range of displays, demonstrations and opportunities.

The Museum and Winter Gardens, The Bridges and Sunderland Minster will play host to about 50 businesses aimed at making people feel good.

The inaugural event, which is free, is being staged by Sunderland Live and businesses including beauty therapist Lyndsey Willis, who runs Ugly Duckling.

“To coincide with the Marathon of the North, the following day we’re involving health, beauty and fitness businesses to show residents what the city has to offer,” she said.

Activities will include baby massage, style tips, laughter yoga, Zumba, dream therapy and more.

Zoe Channing, from Sunderland Live, a new spin-off company from the council’s events team, said: “It’s aimed at residents interested in health, beauty and fitness who can come along and have a look without feeling pressurised into losing weight. You don’t just have to run to feel good and there will be something for all ages.”

Chris Alexander, from Sunderland Live, said: “There are a lot of people in Sunderland over that weekend for the marathon and this will build footfall in the city centre, giving them more things to do and reasons to get involved.

“We hope this will be the first of many Feel Good Sunderland festivals.”

Sunderland Live is also busy planning a number of other events later in the year, including a comedy festival and a vintage festival.
