MOTHERS and babies in the region are set to benefit from £25million improvements to birthing environments.
Maternity units in the North East can apply for new funds to improve their services.
They can bid for en-suite rooms where fathers can stay overnight or additional facilities, such as birthing pools.
Health Minister Dr Dan Poulter said: “A new arrival in the family is a joyous time but can present challenges for mums and families. I want to help women and their partners in the region.”
The NHS Information Service for Parents is also being expanded to cover older babies, up to six months old.
