COLLECTORS helped raise more than £1,500 for a cancer charity.
People helping out Marie Curie Cancer Care donned silly hats for the effort.
More than £1,270 was raised in Sunderland city centre, and £360 collected in Houghton.
The charity provides care and support to those with terminal illnesses.
Charlotte Flowers, community fund-raiser, said: “Whether they were able to give an hour or a few days, by generously donating their own time and energy, the charity’s volunteers were able to encourage more people to donate to the collections.
“Our team of dedicated Marie Curie Nurses work across the region offering people end of life care in their own home, which is a key objective of Marie Curie Cancer Care – giving patients choice in where they spend their final days.”
