OBESITY in Sunderland is being tackled with the help of a new bike repairing scheme.
Charity Trex Cycle is working with Wearsiders to help them develop a new, healthier lifestyle.
The course involves groups restoring old bicycles, which they are allowed to keep once they are back to their former glory.
Bosses at the group behind the scheme, Developing Initiatives Supporting Communities (Disc), say those who complete the course will be given a new drive to push on with their lives.
Disc project worker Paul Booth said: “It’s a fantastic course, giving people in recovery new skills to develop, as well as a healthy lifestyle approach and a new form of transport.”
