SUNDERLAND fan Steven Greener is going to Wembley – thanks to the Echo.
The 50-year-old, from Plains Farm, Sunderland, is the lucky winner of our Capital One Cup ticket competition and is taking brother-in-law Ronnie Fitzsimmons.
Former paving worker Steven was laid off last year after a shoulder replacement and hasn’t been able to find a job since.
“I’m buzzing,” he said. “I got a phone call and thought it was a wind-up, so I was in two minds about it. It’s just when I came in to pick up the tickets, it sunk in.
“Since losing my job, I haven’t been able to afford to go to the games so this is a welcome boost.”
Steven was at the 1992 FA Cup final defeat to Liverpool and the 1998 play-off final against Charlton Athletic – and is hoping this Wembley trip will be third time lucky.
