THEY’RE the team that really is always Happy to help.
A health practice with more than 5,000 patients on Wearside has become the latest entry in this year’s Best of Health awards.
The news brought great delight to the staff at the Happy House surgery in Sunderland.
Practice manager Steven Harder spoke on behalf of the team of two GPs, a nurse practitioner, two nurses, three healthcare assistants, the “lovely” reception team and cleaner.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted and it is lovely when people really appreciate the work that you do.”
He said the surgery often deals with people when “they are not at their best.” But he added: “We try our best to be as friendly as we can, and to show as much compassion as we can.
“When people appreciate that by doing something like nominating you for an award, it is really humbling.”
The practice handles everything from minor surgery and children’s services to vaccinations, disease management, smoking cessation, weight management and health and fitness.
Happy House surgery, in Durham Road in Sunderland, is a modern practice with eight consulting rooms as well as a treatment suite.
The Best of Health awards have already had some impressive entries but we want even more.
It’s easy to nominate and you can do it either by using the form on this page or by going online and nominating on the Sunderland Echo website.
Feel free to put forward as many of your favourite health workers as you think deserve honours.
So whether it’s your favourite GP, an outstanding nurse or a popular carer, there’s a category for all parts of our health profession. All entries must be received by March 20. After that, a panel of judges will meet around a week later to begin the difficult task of narrowing down the field.
They will draw up a shortlist in each of our categories. And all those who make it to the shortlist will be invited to the finals at the Stadium of Light on April 16.
