MEMBERS of an all-female fitness club took part in a 24-hour exercise bike marathon.
Ladies at Leisure Gymnasium, in Front Street, Chester-le-Street, which is run by former soldier Glenn Hill, held the event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
On Saturday, three teams of four completed the feat, which was inspired by club members who had been affected by the illness.
Mr Hill, 38, who spent more than 20 years in the Army, took part as one of the women had to drop out.
He said: “A member’s daughter died of cancer a while back, and we have a few members who have been linked to the disease, so we thought we’d do something for Cancer Research UK.
“We haven’t got a target, we just want to raise as much as we can.
“We have an online Just Giving page where people can make a donation.”
Mr Hill, who served in the Royal Engineers, ploughed his redundancy money into the business.
He hopes to tackle the region’s poor level of fitness.
