A DOZEN grass fires led to two hours of dampening down for a team of firefighters.

Youths are believed to be responsible for the blazes, which were started on dry scrub land between Doxford Park and Farringdon between 8pm and 10pm yesterday.

A crew from North Moor Fire Station were called to the fires and used beaters to put them out.

Police have been informed about the blazes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101.
