THE man who died in a crash was a grandfather who worked at a brewery.
Alan McGee died a short time after the collision, which happened at about 9.50am on Monday, as he travelled west on the A181 at Wheatley Hill.
The 76-year-old, from Vicarage Estate, in Wingate, was in a Toyota Corolla which was involved in a collision with a silver Peugeot 406, near a Jet petrol station forecourt.
The driver of the other car, a 46-year-old from Chilton, suffered minor injuries.
Mr McGee used to work as a joiner at the Castle Eden brewery, but retired on medical grounds.
He leaves a wife, Elizabeth who is known as Betty and a son, also called Alan, and daughter, Karen.
He was also a grandfather.
