SUPER spring weather saw these happy youngsters enjoy fun in the sun.

Wearsiders spent Sunday paddling, flying kites and soaking up the rays on Roker and Seaburn beaches.

Although a brisk southerly wind kept temperatures lower than Saturday’s scorcher, Sunderland’s coastline still enjoyed a pleasant 19°C.

While they played, a group of nine lifeguards practised vital skills to renew their essential qualifications.

The Royal Lifesaving Society UK members, who patrol beaches along the North East coast in high season, took part in mock sea rescues and other activities as part of the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification.

Sadly, the sun tan lotion will be packed away as the weather was set to turn colder from today, with the Met Office predicting temperatures would drop to 10°C by Wednesday.
