GOLFERS clubbed together to raise more than £1,000 for a cancer charity.

Members at Seaham Golf Club played the course backwards and held charity days and other events to generate £1,320 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Club captain Bob Arthur, 60, hailed the achievement of the club, which has almost 500 members.

Those involved have been fund-raising since the start of the current golf season in April.

“A lot of the members and their families have contributed to this very worthy cause,” said Mr Arthur, of Seaham.

“We’ve had some special competitions, like playing the course back to front, as well as other events over the past few months.

“We’re delighted at the total we have managed to raise.”
