THIS all female family have welcomed their fifth generation to the world.
Eva Mae New is the latest member of the brood which stretches back to great-great-grandmother Nelly James, aged 93. Nelly, originally from Deptford, was born in 1920.
The staunch Wearsider has also lived in Pallion, Springwell, and now lives in Sycamore Lodge, Nookside.
Football fan Nelly, who was a dressmaker and sold pies at her beloved Roker Park, was married to Ernest James, who died 23 years ago.
The couple had two daughters, Val Anderson, 60, of Millfield, and Kathleen Buck, 70, also of Millfield. Between them, the sisters have given the matriarch five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
“We are a very close family,” said Val, who is married to Keith, 61, and has two daughters, one son, and six grandchildren.
“One of my daughters lives in my street, and the other one lives in the next street.
“We all go on holidays together, and I think this year there will be 17 of us. It’s a bit chaotic when we are all together, but that’s just the way it is.”
Kathleen, who is married to Raymond, 75, has two children and three grandchildren.
Val’s granddaughter Brooke Wilson, 19, gave birth to Eva Mae on Wednesday, February 27.
“I’m a great-grandmother now,” said Val.
“She was supposed to be born on my birthday- February 25- but she was a couple of days late. Now there are five generations of girls.
“We got a lovely photo of my mam at the hospital with her.
“My mam looks terrific for her age. Although she has Alzheimer’s, physically she is fantastic. I hope I look that good when I am 93.”
