FOOTBALL fans can keep up to speed with the latest signings as the clock ticks down on transfer deadline day.

The Echo is again teaming up with Sunderland University to provide live coverage of the frenetic last day of the transfer window on Monday.

Fans will be able to get live news and views on sunderlandecho.com, with students working alongside Echo staff to bring you the latest as it happens.

Sunderlandecho.com attracted 50,000 people and 1.5million hits on last summer’s transfer deadline day, and is expecting even more traffic this year as Di Canio adds the finishing touches to his squad.

Echo deputy editor Richard Ord said: “It’s already been a busy summer on the transfer front at Sunderland, and it doesn’t look like it’s over yet.

“Transfer deadline day is always an exciting one for football fans and it’s great to be working with the university again to capture some of that buzz.”

The Echo will provide saturation coverage on the day via its interactive live blog, run from Sunderland University’s Media Centre at St Peter’s.

Scores of stories will also be uploaded to our sports home page, providing more information, views and analysis.

Readers can also be part of our coverage, adding their own comments to the feed and taking part in polls.

David Peddie, editor of Sunderland students’ sports website SportsByte, has been coordinating the student team.

He said: “Our partnership with the Sunderland Echo is now as much of a fixture here at the university as the day itself.

“It is a great opportunity for our journalism students to showcase their work on such a national scale, in a real-life newsroom environment.

“And working alongside the Echo professionals is a fantastic experience for our students.”

He added: “It looks like this year is really shaping up to be another dramatic day, both locally and around the country. Paolo Di Canio is still keen to add to his Sunderland squad, with Alan Pardew trying to hang onto his best players.

“With stories on Rooney, Bale, Suarez etc still not resolved it promises to be an action packed day.”
