A CALL for Wearside women to get back into netball is being made.
The Back to Netball programme aims to give ex-players of all ages the chance to return to the sport.
The scheme aims to act as a gentle re-introduction to the sport for females aged 16 and over.
Netball player Alice Bennett, 27, of Durham, said: “Back to Netball has made a big impact on my life.
“From not playing since school, I now play twice a week and have a wonderful new set of friends.”
More than 30 venues across the region are now running the scheme, with the latest taking place at Southwick Primary School.
Fiona Johnson, North East Netball Development Officer for England Netball, said: “Most women stop playing netball at 16 when leaving school.
“Work, families and other commitments can often take over and the sport these ladies once loved is forgotten.
“Back to Netball is a flexible and non-committal programme. You can turn up one week then, if you’ve got other commitments the next week, you don’t have to.”
