A CHARITY for older people is urging everyone to look out for their neighbours.
As the clocks went back at the weekend, officially signalling the start of British winter time, Age UK wants people to remember those living near them, particularly older people.
As winter approaches and the nights draw in, some people stay indoors more often, which can sometimes increase feelings of loneliness.
The charity’s research shows there is already a strong community spirit in the North East, with seven in 10 people who had helped their neighbours in the past 12 months and nearly a third who regularly check on older neighbours.
For useful tips on how to get people and homes ready for winter, order the charity’s free guide Winter Wrapped Up, which comes with a room thermometer and provides tips on staying well and warm.
