FAMILIES on Wearside have been enjoying all the fun of the fair.
The Sunderland Summer Fair kicked off at the Stadium of Light with thrill rides, games and stalls.
Despite wet conditions, about 1,000 children from Sunderland got to test out the fun first, free of charge thanks to the Variety Club of Great Britain.
Mum Rachael Storey, of Monkwearmouth, took daughters Charlie, 11, and Dayna, nine, down to get involved.
Ms Storey, 32, said: “It’s good to have this here and it’s great for the city.
“People have come from miles around to come here now, with it being here last year.
“With the concerts we’ve been having at the Stadium of Light as well it’s making Sunderland a place people really want to come to.”
Corporate Funfairs, who are running the fair, say that 50 per cent of gate revenue from tonight and July 10 will go towards the Nissan Red Cross Tsunami Appeal.
Anyone visiting the fair until it ends on July 10 in the new Sunderland AFC away kit, which is out today, will be given free entry for them and their family, worth £2 each.
They will also be given discount ride vouchers.
Children’s TV favourite Peppa Pig will be making an appearance at the fair tomorrow and a number of bands are set to perform on July 8 and July 9.
