Gas main work means delays for Sunderland drivers

Drivers will face delays on a busy Sunderland road from tomorrow.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, will be carrying out repair work to a gas main at the Hendon Road/White House Road roundabout.

The gas supply to nearby properties will not be affected, however in order for engineers to work safely and efficiently, four-way temporary traffic lights will be introduced at the junction of Hendon Road and Whitehouse Road from around 9.30am.

These will be in place for around one week and manually operated at peak times in order to reduce traffic congestion, although it is likely some motorists will experience delays.

Simon Mears, Network Officer for Northern Gas Networks said: "The safety of the public is our number one priority and, in order for us to complete the repair as quickly and as safely as

we can, it is necessary to put temporary lights in place.

"We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may experience, and thank everyone for their patience and support as we complete this work."
