The funeral of a popular Sunderland dad who was killed in a violent attack was set to take place today.
David Walsh, known to friends as Boff, died on November 20 following an assault in Canon Cockin Street, near his home.
The 45-year-old father of four and grandfather-of-four, who lived in Fuller Street, in Hendon, had suffered substantial injuries.
Dalton Barnett, 19, of Fuller Road, Charles Lamont, 40, of Villette Road, and Raymond Brown, 36, of Canon Cockin Street, are all accused of murdering Mr Walsh and appeared before Newcastle Crown Court last month via videolink from HMP Holme House.
No pleas to the charges were made.
They are set to face a trial, which is estimated to last up to five weeks and has been listed for May 31, but is subject to change.
The trio have since been remanded in custody.
Mr Walsh’s funeral was due to be held at Sunderland Crematorium, off Chester Road, today at 11am before his wake at the Catholic Club in Tatham Street, in Hendon.
