THE funeral of a grandad who died after a disturbance outside a bar will be held next week.

John Potts, a dad-of-six and a grandad-of-one, died on Sunday, November 23.

He sustained head injuries outside the NE38 sports bar in Barmston, Washington, and treated by paramedics, but pronounced dead at the scene.

A service for the 45-year-old, from Town End Farm, will be held on Thursday at 1.30pm, at Sunderland Crematorium.

Mr Potts’s family has asked donations in lieu of flowers are given to the Parkinson’s Society.

Gordon Robson, 26, of Waskerley Way, Barmston, has been charged with his manslaughter.

He will return to Newcastle Crown Court for a plea and directions hearing on February 24, with a trial listed for April.
