FOUR Wearside Golf Club members are bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “fund-raising drive”.

Club professional Kieron O’Brien, lady captain and ladies’ club champion Sue Naisby, junior team manager Craig Wayman and men’s club champion Derek Goldsmith played 100 holes on the Cox Green course to raise funds for the club’s junior section.

Joan Lilley, the club’s junior liason officer said: “We are entirely self-supporting as a section.

“We need to raise money to pay for coaching, which is the biggest expense, then there are the prizes and trophies for the competitions and the team needs new strips.”

The junior section includes boys and girls of mixed ability, aged from seven to 21.

Lessons are held between 9.30am and 10.30am each Saturday and 5pm and 6pm each Tuesday. Sessions are £3.

Anyone wanting more information should contact the club on 534 2518.
