FORCES veterans turned out as two riders on an epic charity adventure were blessed.

The blessing was given by the Rev Canon David Glover, rector of Holy Trinity Church Washington and chaplain to the Royal British Legion Washington branch, to celebrate the extraordinary fundraising endeavours of Medwyn Parry and Dougie Bancroft.

They are aiming to raise £51,000 for the Royal British Legion.

The pair visited the Angel of The North as part of their quest to visit every single one of the 51 “Thankful Villages” in the UK – villages with no traditional war memorial because all who left to fight in the First World War in 1914 returned home.

Medwyn and Dougie were en route on the penultimate day of their challenge, which started near Aberystwyth, in Wales, on Saturday, July 27, and some 2,500 miles and nine days later finished at the very same village, at about 7pm last night.
