A dedicated fundraiser is getting ready for his eighth challenge of the year.
Lee Dover, of Carrville, Durham, is heading to the Lake District this weekend to take on Total Warrior and raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The 26-year-old, originally from Hetton, was inspired to raise money for the charity after his mum, Angela, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
His cousin, Claire Willis, was also struck by the disease.
Both women are now fighting fit, but Lee wants to make sure others in the same position have the help they need. He said: “They’re the reason I decided to start raising money.
“I just want to do everything I can to help people who are going through what my mam and cousin went through.
It does look really though so we’re all a little bit worried, but we’re going to just try to have fun with it.Lee Dover
“I’m doing something every month this year and have raised a couple of hundred so far.
“I’ve got things like the Great North Run coming up, so hopefully I’ll get a bit more sponsorship coming in.”
Lee, who works at digital marketing agency Mediaworks, is taking on the gruelling 10k Total Warrior challenge alongside some of his colleagues.
Already this year he’s completed Dry January, the Sunderland Half Marathon, gave up crisps, chocolate and takeaways and held fundraising days to drum up support for his chosen charity.
He added: “There are 20 of us from work doing Total Warrior.
“A few did it last year and the rest of us decided to give it a go this time.
“It does look really though so we’re all a little bit worried, but we’re going to just try to have fun with it.
“I’ve been going running and keeping the exercise up to try to prepare for it.”
Total Warrior takes place in the Lake District over August 1 and 2.
