COMMUNITY groups in Sunderland’s East End are being encouraged to dip into a funding pot.
A total of £80million is up for grabs from the nationwide Community First Neighbourhood Match Fund.
The Hendon ward of Sunderland has been awarded a slice of more than £50,800.
Charity Back on the Map has been tasked with setting up a Community First Panel so groups can access the funds.
Cash will be handed out to groups driven by local people which meet one of five priorities: embrace sports, heritage and culture in Hendon and the East End; improve community projects, facilities and the environment; address the needs of young people and vulnerable group; encourage healthier lifestyles and help the community come together to express their needs and influence decisions.
