Wearside Field Club walkers enjoyed their walk at Goathland last week

If you are used to enjoying the food at Bede’s Bake House at St Peter’s, Monkwearmouth, please note that 12 new stained glass windows are to be installed, so it will be closed for five weeks from now until May 30. The furniture in the Bake House will be replaced with new oak monastic refectory tables.

Wearside Field Club is meet on Tuesday, May 10, at 7.30pm in Fulwell Community Centre, Chapman Street. Sharon Vincent will talk about The Army in World War One. Bookings will be taken for the walk at Barnard Castle and Middleton in Teesdale to be led by Sandra Boyers. The June walk will be at Hexham, led by stuart Miller.

A Family Fun event, hosted by the Girl’s Brigade at Fulwell Methodist Church, Dovedale Road, will be held on Saturday from 3pm-5pm. All are welcome

Fulwell Art Club exhibition is at present on show in Fulwell Library people can view the many wonderful paintings, some of which can be purchased. Its worth going along.

Friends of Cut Throat Dene will be clearing rough grass patches ready to plant wild flowers seeds on Saturday and Sunday at 10am. This will help bees and butterflies and make the path a nicer place to walk along. Go along for an hour or two, can’t promise warm weather but you will get a warm welcome, tools and gloves provided. Sunderland Philatelic Society will meet in the hall of Roker Methodist Church, on the corner of Roker Park Road and Lonsdale Road, tomorrow at 7pm. Speaker Mr A Stoves will talk about Stockton and Darlington Railway. For further information, call Fred Greener on 0191 385 2196.

All Saints’ Mothers’ Union will meet in the Vestry Meeting Room at All Saints’ Church on Monday, May 9, at 2pm. Speaker will be Phyl Curtis.

Seaburn (Men’s) Probus Club will meet in Roker Methodist Church, at the junction of Lonsdale Road and Roker Park Road, tomorrow at 10am. New members are welcome.

Fulwell Community Association’s AGM will take place on Wednesday, May 11, at 7pm in the centre, Chapman Street, Fulwell. Business, to elect officers and committee and receive reports and accounts.

All Saints’ Ladies’ Fellowship will meet in the vestry meeting room at All Saints’ Church, Fulwell Road, tomorrow at 7.45pm.

Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year scheme is back and the Fulwell store is looking for a new charity to support from the Roker, Fulwell and Seaburn area. There will be a shortlist of charities for customers to vote for and the winning one will then receive a year of support from the store, which includes fundraising and awareness. Customers can vote between June 13 and 19 in store and online. The Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year scheme has raised over £9million over the last seven years and has helped thousands of charities across the UK.
