A BUSINESSMAN fractured his pal’s cheekbone for having an affair with his wife.
Paul Forster, 42, snapped when he found out a long-term friend had been having “secret meetings” with his partner of 17 years.
Newcastle Crown Court heard violence flared during a chance meeting between the two men at a pub in Sunderland on February 6 last year.
Forster, who has never been in trouble before, was captured on CCTV approaching his friend’s table and knocking him off his stool with single blow.
The punch caused a cut to the victim’s face and fractured his cheekbone.
Forster was arrested and told police: “Do you know what he’s done to my family? Seventeen years together, do you think it is right what he has done?
“I know you shouldn’t go around hitting people.”
Forster, of Hylton Road, Millfield, Sunderland, admitted assault.
Prosecutor Emma Atkinson told the court there is no proof of the affair and the victim did not make a statement in respect of that aspect of the case.
But Jamie Adams, defending Forster, said: “He didn’t quite believe, even though it was staring him in the face, that his wife and his friend were having an affair until he asked his wife and she told the truth.”
Judge Brian Forster sentenced Forster to a community order with 80 hours unpaid work and £400 costs.
