CHEF Frank Turnbull was feeling the heat when he whisked his way to the regional finals of a national cooking competition.
Frank competed in the Northern Care Cook regional leg of the competition, and just narrowly missed out on a place at the National Association of Catering Awards.
Frank, who works at HC-One Washington Lodge Care Home, was selected for the regional finals for his menu which focuses on individuals who have dysphagia – a condition which causes people to have difficulty swallowing.
All their food has to be purified and returned to its original state before being cooked. Frank’s food was praised for being nutritious and appetising.
He said: “Unfortunately, I did not go through to the final, but I still really enjoyed competing, and it was a great learning experience.”
Washington Lodge home manager, Jill Collins, said: “Frank really deserved recognition for the delicious food he makes.
The residents look forward to mealtimes as they know Frank is always looking to make something different and tasty.
“We are lucky to have such a great chef at our home.”
